I think anybody born through the history of a diaspora is a time traveler of sorts. Days like this only remind me of the superpowers that were already in our possession. In this long evening, before we can see the sun again for prolonged periods of time, I seek out places where time always feels to move the slowest.
A mountain a day :
There are moments this year when I experience time through equal parts of despair and gratitude. Within those separate halves, and how they make me feel inside my own body, it often seems like we’re all climbing different types of mountains every day, over and over again, not knowing when the process is ever going to end.
Some days the mountains are steeper, some days the air uphill is colder, and on other days, the rest stops are more beautiful than others.
Time Stretching :
I have never been good at setting New Year resolutions, but learning how to not always look at time in a linear sense has taught me a great deal about setting goals that serve me best. I created a Time Stretching Map as an alternative to the vertical to-do list format. I’m currently in love with the process of making art objects and experiences with Google Drive—a practice that will probably continue for me in 2021.
